CreateVideo FAQs

Got questions about working with CreateVideo? Find straightforward answers about our video production process, planning, filming, costs and what to expect, so you can feel confident before getting started.

Getting started

What kind of work do you take on?

Brand and commercial videos, social content, product films, event coverage, documentary-style pieces and short-form content for social platforms. If a project doesn't fit neatly into one of those, ask us anyway, most briefs are a mix.

How do I actually start a project with you?

Send over a brief, or just a rough idea if that's all you have. We'll set up a short call to talk through goals, timeline and budget, then follow up with a proposal and a scope of work before anything is booked.

Is the first conversation free?

Yes. The discovery call costs nothing and doesn't commit you to booking. It's mainly so we can scope the project properly before quoting.

Pricing and payment

How much does a video cost?

It depends on scope, but most projects fall between [$X,XXX–$XX,XXX]. The biggest cost drivers are shoot days, crew size, locations and how involved the edit is. We'll give you a firm number after the discovery call, not a vague range.

If a project's needs fall outside the scope of one of our Packages or our Project Calculator,  reach out for a personalised quote. It only takes a few minutes to scope out.

What's included, and what costs extra?

Every quote includes pre-production, the shoot, editing and one round of revisions unless stated otherwise. Travel outside of Cambridge, music licensing, paid talent and rush turnaround are billed separately and always flagged upfront, never as a surprise on the final invoice.

Do you require a deposit?

We ask for 50% before we start pre-production, with the remaining balance due on final delivery. Larger projects can be split across milestones instead, we're happy to work that out together.

How many rounds of revisions do I get?

Two rounds of edit notes are included in every project. Beyond that, changes are billed hourly. This isn't about limiting feedback, it's to keep scope clear on both sides from the start.

Process and timeline

How long does a project take, start to finish?

A typical brand video takes 3–5 weeks from kickoff to delivery: about a week of pre-production, one or two shoot days, then two to three weeks of editing and revisions. Larger or multi-location projects run longer, we'll map out a real timeline in the proposal.

Do you write the script, or do I need to bring one?

Either works. We can develop the concept and script from scratch, refine something you've already drafted, or shoot from your script as-is. Most clients land somewhere in the middle: you bring the message, we shape it for video.

Can you work with a tight deadline?

Often, yes, subject to our current schedule and a rush fee. The earlier you flag a hard deadline, the more room we have to make it work without cutting corners.

What do you need from me to get started?

Brand assets (logo, fonts, colors), any reference videos you like, key messaging points, and availability for talent or locations. We'll send a simple intake form once the project is booked so nothing gets missed.

Delivery and rights

Who owns the finished video?

You do. Once the final invoice is paid, full usage rights transfer to you for the purposes outlined in the scope of work. We ask for permission to use the piece in our own portfolio, but that never limits your rights to it.

What files will I actually receive?

A final export in whatever formats and aspect ratios you need, typically a master file plus versions cropped for social. Raw, unedited footage isn't included by default but can be added to the scope if you want it archived.

How long do you keep project files after delivery?

We archive project files for 12 months after final delivery. If you think you'll need re-edits or additional cutdowns later, let us know and we'll hold onto everything for longer.

On the day

Do you travel for shoots?

Yes, regularly. Travel within Cambridge is usually built into the quote; anything further out is billed at cost. Let us know your location early so we can plan accordingly.

Can I be on set during filming?

Absolutely, most clients like to be there. We'll walk you through the shot list beforehand so you know what to expect and when your input is most useful on the day.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

Reschedules with more than 7 days' notice are free. Cancellations after the deposit is paid retain the deposit to cover time already committed. Full terms are in the contract before you sign.

Do you carry insurance?

Yes, we carry general liability and equipment insurance and can provide a certificate of insurance if your venue or location requires proof before filming.
